Summer School (6 weeks June 28th-August 6th)

This summer we decided to add a block of summer school to our program to help our students with writing. Throughout the year there had been many struggles with writing and we wanted a fun way to challenge them while allowing them to think outside the box.

We decided to get Daily 6-Trait Writing for Grade 1, 3, and 6+. We will have the students a couple weeks each week and then choose a day 5 prompt to write about. Each grade will have a different amount. This will allow them to be creative in their writing and chose the writing assignments they would like to write about.

Our first 2 weeks of summer school we will be on a vacation to see the grandparents. It will be a nice get-away and we can help with the garden, do arts and crafts, and do hiking.

STEM, Art & Spring Break

Since beginning the individual schedules it is nice to see the students taking a liking to the schedule. I am able to spend more one on one time with each on and keep our Preschooler involved in different lessons with other students. Our Second grader is going to be doing Monday thru Friday full time instead of Zoom Meetings on Monday thru Wednesday. It will be interesting to see the class become one the entire week.

Looking for new desks

We have a table that works for the students as of now but our 7th grader is grown out of the table and chairs so we are looking at some different types of desks/tables which can accommodate all the students together or individually.

We found a wheel of names to pick out state for this week because it is a fun way to pick a state. I added the list of states remaining and let the wheel spin. It took us to New York which was very fun to learn about. New York is home to the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State building.

We talked about Broadway plays, the people who lived there, what it was like in the 30’s and 40’s when New York was growing and changing. We also went over how the stock market has changed over the years as well as how people live in a city with over 8 million people!

Individual Schedules and The Hanging Gardens

The lessons have been getting more involved with the students and so we made some individual schedules for them so I can work individually during the time frames. If they are finished with their lesson early I allow them to have a break, drink water, stretch, and play. We have been doing a daily journal in the morning as well to improve their writing skills and build their confidence in writing.

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

We had a fun history lesson this week about Babylon and the hanging gardens which turns out to be the one of the Seven Wonders of the World. While we do not know exactly what the gardens looked like we can image how beautiful and decorated they were.

We found a wheel of names to pick out state for this week because it is a fun way to pick a state. I added the list of states remaining and let the wheel spin. It took us to New Mexico which was very fun to learn about. New Mexico is the Land of Enchantment because the state has beautiful scenery from mountains to forests to deserts.

This week was full of such interesting lessons and projects that I feel like I only shared a sample of what we learned.
